An ABC Certified Fitter-orthotics mastectomy is a health care professional who is specifically educated and trained in the provision of certain orthoses as well as breast prostheses, post-mastectomy items and services. This includes patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up and practice management.

The ABC Certified Fitter-orthotics mastectomy is bound by the ABC Code of Professional Responsibility which is enforced by a Professional Discipline program.

The time limited certification expires if the certificate holder does not comply with Continuing Education requirements.

Criteria to earn this badge

Current eligibility criteria for the ABC Certified Fitter-orthotics mastectomy includes:
• A high school diploma, GED or college degree
• Completion of a National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE) approved orthotic fitter and mastectomy fitter pre-certification education course
• Completion of 1,000 hours of orthotic fitting patient care experience
• Completion of 500 hours of mastectomy fitting patient care experience
• Passing score on both written exams
