An ABC Certified Prosthetic Assistant is an individual educated and trained to participate in comprehensive prosthetic care while under the supervision of an ABC Certified Prosthetist. Under supervision a Certified Prosthetic Assistant may perform prosthetic procedures and related tasks in the management of patient care as well as fabrication, repair and maintenance of prostheses.

ABC Certified Prosthetic Assistants may not use their credentials as independent providers of patient care.

The ABC Certified Prosthetic Assistant is bound by the ABC Code of Professional Responsibility, which is enforced by a Professional Discipline program.

The time limited certification expires if the certificate holder does not comply with Continuing Education requirements.

Criteria to earn this badge

Current eligibility criteria for the ABC Certified Prosthetic Assistant includes:
• High school diploma, GED or college degree
• Successful completion of three semester hours each of the following courses. Each course must be from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
o Human Anatomy
o General/Fundamental Physics
o Medical Terminology
• One year (1,900 hours) of clinical experience under the supervision of an ABC Certified Prosthetist
• Passing score on the written exam
