Certified Prosthetic Technician

An ABC Certified Prosthetic Technician is an individual trained and qualified to assist an ABC credentialed individual by providing technical support. ABC Certified Prosthetic Technicians may not use their credentials as independent providers of patient care.

The Certified Prosthetic Technician fabricates, repairs and maintains prostheses and is proficient with current fabricating techniques, familiar with material properties and skilled in the use of appropriate equipment.

The ABC Certified Prosthetic Technician is bound by the ABC Code of Professional Responsibility, which is enforced by a Professional Discipline program.

The time limited certification expires if the certificate holder does not comply with Continuing Education requirements.

Criteria to earn this badge

Current eligibility criteria for the ABC Certified Prosthetic Technician includes:
• Successful completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)/National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE) approved technician education program
• A high school diploma, GED or a college degree
• Two years of technical experience in prosthetics under the supervision of an ABC Certified Prosthetist or an ABC Certified Prosthetic Technician
