ABC Central Fabrication accreditation recognizes those orthotic, prosthetic and pedorthic manufacturing facilities that have met rigorous standards for the physical environment and organizational function of these facilities.
All ABC Accredited Central Fabrication facilities are bound by the ABC Code of Professional Responsibility which is enforced by a Professional Discipline program.
The time limited accreditation expires every five years.

Certified Fitter-mastectomy
An ABC Certified Fitter-mastectomy is a health care professional who is specifically educated and trained in the provision of breast prostheses and post-mastectomy items and services. This includes patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up and practice management.
The ABC Certified Fitter-mastectomy is bound by the ABC Code of Professional Responsibility which is enforced by a Professional Discipline program.
The time limited certification expires if the certificate holder does not comply with Continuing Education requirements.

Certified Fitter-orthotics
An ABC Certified Fitter-orthotics is a health care professional who is specifically educated and trained in the provision of certain orthoses. This includes patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up and practice management.
An ABC Certified Fitter-orthotics is competent to practice orthotics within a scope of practice that is specific to fitting certain custom fitted, prefabricated and off-the-shelf orthoses as describe in more detail in the scope of practice.
The ABC Certified Fitter-Orthotics is bound by the ABC Code of Professional Responsibility which is enforced by a Professional Discipline program
The time limited certification expires if the certificate holder does not comply with Continuing Education requirements.

Certified Fitter-Orthotics Mastectomy
An ABC Certified Fitter-orthotics mastectomy is a health care professional who is specifically educated and trained in the provision of certain orthoses as well as breast prostheses, post-mastectomy items and services. This includes patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up and practice management.
The ABC Certified Fitter-orthotics mastectomy is bound by the ABC Code of Professional Responsibility which is enforced by a Professional Discipline program.

Certified Fitter-therapeutic shoes
An ABC Certified Fitter-therapeutic shoes is a health care professional who is specifically educated and trained to provide non-custom therapeutic shoes and non-custom multi-density inserts. This includes patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up and practice management.
The ABC Certified Fitter-therapeutic shoes is bound by the ABC Code of Professional Responsibility which is enforced by a Professional Discipline program.

Certified Orthotic Assistant
An ABC Certified Orthotic Assistant is an individual educated and trained to participate in comprehensive orthotic care while under the supervision of an ABC Certified Orthotist, including performing orthotic procedures and related tasks in the management of patient care. The initial evaluation and formulation of the treatment plan is the responsibility of the supervising orthotist.
The Certified Orthotic Assistant may also fabricate, repair and maintain orthoses but may not use their credentials as independent providers of patient care.
The ABC Certified Orthotic Assistant is bound by the ABC Code of Professional Responsibility, which is enforced by a Professional Discipline program.

Certified Orthotic Technician
An ABC Certified Orthotic Technician is an individual trained and qualified to assist an ABC credentialed individual by providing technical support. ABC Certified Orthotic Technicians may not use their credentials as independent providers of patient care.
The Certified Orthotic Technician fabricates, repairs and maintains orthoses and is proficient with current fabricating techniques, familiar with material properties and skilled in the use of appropriate equipment.
The ABC Certified Orthotic Technician is bound by the ABC Code of Professional Responsibility, which is enforced by a Professional Discipline program.
The time limited certification expires if the certificate holder does not comply with Continuing Education requirements.

Certified Orthotist
An ABC Certified Orthotist is a health care professional who is specifically educated and trained to manage comprehensive orthotic patient care. This includes patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up and practice management.
Orthotic care may include, but is not limited to, patient evaluation, orthosis design, fabrication, fitting and modification to treat a neuromusculoskeletal disorder or acquired condition. This includes the provision of partial foot prostheses for transmetatarsal and more distal amputations.
The ABC Certified Orthotist is bound by the ABC Code of Professional Responsibility which is enforced by a Professional Discipline program.

Certified Pedorthist
An ABC Certified Pedorthist is a health care professional who is specifically educated and trained to manage comprehensive pedorthic patient care. This includes patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up and practice management. ABC Certified Pedorthist’s fit, fabricate, adjust or modify pedorthic devices for the prevention or amelioration of painful and/or disabling conditions of the foot and ankle.
The ABC Certified Pedorthist is bound by the ABC Code of Professional Responsibility which is enforced by a Professional Discipline program.

Certified Prosthetic Assistant
An ABC Certified Prosthetic Assistant is an individual educated and trained to participate in comprehensive prosthetic care while under the supervision of an ABC Certified Prosthetist. Under supervision a Certified Prosthetic Assistant may perform prosthetic procedures and related tasks in the management of patient care as well as fabrication, repair and maintenance of prostheses.
ABC Certified Prosthetic Assistants may not use their credentials as independent providers of patient care.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and many third-party health insurers require that patient care facilities be accredited.
All ABC Accredited O&P facilities are bound by the ABC Code of Professional Responsibility which is enforced by a Professional Discipline program.
The time limited accreditation expires every three years and facilities are resurveyed at that time.
